[AD] Novotel Southampton Review

We were recently invited to review the Novotel Southampton, we had never really explored the South Coast much as a family so we thought it would be a great time to start.  The hotel is in a fabulous location right in the heart of Southampton City Centre & literally opposite the docks.  We are a family that love to use a hotel as a base and have plenty of things to walk to so this really ticked a massive box for us.  Another bonus of the location was the hotel overlooked a huge Mothercare and Boots; perfect for any forgotten essentials.  If you enjoy a more active holiday, be sure to look at Potters Resort.

We arrived at the hotel around 2pm and parked in the hotels car park.  The car park felt very secure with entry barriers and plenty of CCTV around.  The check in was very smooth and the staff were extremely friendly; they even gave Miss H a little Novotel zebra which she was over the moon with.  We were given one of the executive rooms on the 5th floor.  The room was equipped with everything we needed including toiletries, tea & coffee making facilities, a Nespresso machine,  a mini fridge and biscuits (we always need lots of them!).  The room had a double bed plus a fold out double sofa bed.  The room was really quiet and had blackout curtains to make it lovely and dark.

The common areas of the Novotel Southampton are modern and the hotel was clean and tidy throughout.  The Novotel Southampton has a lovely little games area for Children in the reception area equipped with XBox, puzzles, books, cushions, an interactive table and lots of toys.  There really would be no problem keeping kids entertained while you checked in or at any point during your stay.

We unpacked and then set off to explore the city; as you will see from our photos we had great fun.  Southampton is a wonderful city with plenty to see and do.  It is steeped in maritime history and has lots of incredible architecture.  There is a lovely park with a great play area overlooking the Solent.

We returned to the hotel after dinner and relaxed in our room for a while before it was time to go to sleep.

After a comfortable nights sleep, we headed downstairs for breakfast.  There was plenty of choice at breakfast.  There was a large continental section with fresh fruit, cheeses, hams and fresh pastries.  There was a full English option available with Bacon, Eggs, Sausages, Beans, Tomatoes & Hash Browns & Mushrooms.

There was also a pancake maker – once I saw it I just had to try it.  I pressed the button and within a minute or 2 a perfectly made and very delicious pancake appeared on the plate.  There was a great selection of pancake toppings too including chocolate sauce!

We dined on a table in the middle of the breakfast room as a family, but those travelling alone (or those wanting a little peace and quiet) had the option of these really fab dining booths complete with personal tv & headphones!  I have travelled solo before for work and I cannot tell you how much I would have appreciated one of these booths.

On our second day we decided to head to Paultons Park, home of Peppa Pig World and the Lost Kingdom as it is only 15 minutes away from the hotel.  We had a wonderful day at Paultons Park – a truly amazing family theme park.  We were all shattered after our visit and were so pleased that we had extended our stay at the Novotel Southampton so we were only minutes away from a comfortable nights sleep.

The next morning we had another amazing breakfast (complete with pancakes) before setting off to explore the Sea City Musuem which is a short walk from the hotel.  The museum is brilliant and has lots of artefacts relating to the Titanic.  After enjoying the museum it was time for us to head back to the hotel and check out.

Check out was swift and we had paid £88 including breakfast for our 2nd night which we thought was exceptional value for money given the standard of the hotel and its central location.  We really enjoyed our stay at the Novotel Southampton and would love to return again.

Disclosure: We were invited to stay at the Novotel Southampton for free for one night on a bed and breakfast basis, however all opinions are my own.
