[AD] Butlins Review – A Half Term Break At The Shoreline Hotel In Bognor Regis

If I told you we were heading off to Butlins what would you expect our holiday to be like? I bet you would think of 1950’s style chalets and Hi De Hi?  I bet you wouldn’t think of floor to ceiling sea views in an breathtaking hotel room & amazing full on family entertainment in a clean and modern environment – but that is exactly what we got.  You can see from the photo below that we had the most incredible view; it was AMAZING to be able to wake up in the morning open the curtains and sit in bed with a cuppa looking at this magnificent sea view.  I have been home less than 3 hours and I miss it already; I would go back in a heartbeat.  We had glorious sunshine for most of our trip & was brilliant to be able to put Lily down for a nap in her bedroom and sit out on the balcony overlooking the sea, read a book & soak up the sun.  We are all so pleased that we got chosen to conduct this Butlins Review as we all had such an incredible time.  If you are going to be travelling with a Baby then take a look at our comprehensive Baby Packing Checklist.

Even if your child, like mine, has largely grown out of napping I will wager they would need one at Butlins because the days are long and action packed; the entertainment usually starts with Billie & Bonnie Bears Rise and Shine show at 10 a.m. and continues right through the day with a brilliant variety of family friendly games & sports, shows & crafts.  The entertainment continues well into the evening with shows and a late night Disco.

Butlins Review – The Hotel & Dining:

As we opened the door to our Nelson Stateroom in the Shoreline Hotel we were greeted with a lovely spacious hall; prefect for keeping the pram in – it had a large cloak wall too so we managed to keep all our coats out there too.  The door to the left was the bathroom and it had mini toiletries and tissues in the bathroom & the toilet had a built in toddler seat and step so the little ones can be a little more independent in using the toilet.  Straight on we had Lily’s bedroom which had a really large wardrobe with both hanging space and shelving, bunk beds with their own individually controlled lights and T.V.s (yes each bunk bed had their own telly!) & the room had air conditioning which we used a lot as we had lovely weather during our visit.  The room also had a small full length window overlooking the sea.

The second door on the left from the hall was the lounge and this was a lovely spacious area equipped with a ship themed play wall, an octopus cushion and small area to play in the lounge, a double chaise sofa and a mini kitchen station with kettle, fridge, cupboard with shelves and a tea tray with complementary tea making facilities.  The lounge had a swivel TV which you could either watch sitting on the sofa or from the master bedroom.  The lounge also had those amazing floor to ceiling windows and had a telescope which I am sure would be amazing if you knew how to use one (I tried but I could just see blurs!).

You can watch a little tour of our room here:

The Master Bedroom was just off the open plan lounge and had a king size bed with drawers either side and a small wardrobe and vanity area.  It also had an iron and ironing board.  The bed was really comfortable although it was two single beds pushed together so you was a little weary of sleeping in the middle.  The bedroom also had a bathrobe and slippers that you are free to use during your stay; but fortunately the weather we had was more suited to Bikinis than bathrobes!

Our Nelson Stateroom Hotel Room in the Shoreline Hotel was amazing & well equipped with everything you need for a family break.  Now I have stayed in a Stateroom I could not stay in a basic room as I would miss the sea views too much to if you are heading to the Shoreline Hotel my advice would certainly be to book a Stateroom if you could afford one.  If you want to compare the stateroom to a standard octopus room at the Shoreline Hotel then take a look at my Just For Tots Break Review where you can watch a little video.

We were given the Premium Dining Package as part of our break which meant that we could take advantage of the Dine Around option; we choose from the various restaurants on site as long as we booked in the morning.  We enjoyed trying out the new Fish & Chip Shop, The Diner, Beachcomber and Papa Johns during our stay.  We all enjoyed being able to dine somewhere different each night and I would certainly book the Premium Dining Package for our next visit.

Butlins Review – The Resort, Shows & Activities

We had such an amazing time at Butlins this week, I cannot recommend it highly enough.  You get given a little mini booklet at the start of the week and that gives you a little timetable of the activities for your break; it has symbols next to each activity so you know what ages they are suitable for and whether you need to book in advance.  The only activities we booked in advanced and paid extra for were the pottery painting and go karts.  In addition to the activities timetable there is also a Fairground with lots of Free rides, Free indoor rides, a huge Free indoor soft play and a park.  We really enjoyed watching lots of shows; Lily’s favourite were Rise and Shine with Billie and Bonnie and the Skyline Gang Magic Show.

The pottery painting was good fun, we went into the Promenade room and chose one a little pottery cupcake moneybox to paint.  The paints were already laid out on the tables with little paper place mats.  There were plenty of aprons in varying sizes to make sure you didn’t get your clothes messy.  We really enjoyed the pottery painting and would definitely do it again.

Mike absolutely loved his Go Kart session – he lapped everyone and won so he really was over the moon.

We really enjoyed the on site activities; Mike did Beach Volleyball and as a family we all had fun doing Kwik Cricket, Football & The Tots Activity Session.  It was lovely that at just 3 Lily was able to join in with the family activity sessions.  Here are some photos of us enjoying the activities on site:

Disclosure: We were given our break at Butlins Free in exchange for this review, but in no way did that influence the amount of fun we had!
