As a couple Mike and I went racing a lot. We used to book Premier Enclosure tickets. We have been to many race days together including the Grand National at Aintree, Glorious Goodwood and the Epsom Derby.
The race course at Lingfield Park holds a special place in our heart. We’ve been there many times. We usually also book a junior suite at the on course Marriott Lingfield Park Hotel and then head to the Smith & Western restaurant for dinner.
We first visited Lingfield Park back in 2010 when I booked a little surprise break for Mikes birthday. I’d booked us race day tickets and I’d booked the hotel for the night. We had such a lovely time, we were winning, the sun was shining and I can vividly remember looking at Mike and saying – we’ve nothing to rush home for why don’t we stay another night and watch the racing again tomorrow – so we did!
In 2013 we experienced our first taste of race day hospitality. It was Mikes big birthday and we sponsored a race at Lingfield Park – The Michael Hughes 30th Birthday Maiden Stakes. We had an amazing time and was able to go in the parade ring before the race and after the race and we also went in a box after the race to celebrate with the winning trainer.
After this experience we got a taste for hospitality and had also visited Newmarket July Course and booked a dining package.
Lily has also experienced hospitality before, Mike had booked us a race day with afternoon tea in the trackside restaurant at Lingfield Park for a surprise day out when Lily was 1. Lily went again when she was 2 as well.
Lily has also visited Newmarket race course with us. When Lingfield Park got in touch to ask if we would like to review a family day out we jumped at the chance and it would be our first race day experience as a family of four.
We were given hospitality tickets and if you are thinking of going horse racing with a child or baby then I would definitely recommend it. It was nice to have the comfort that if it rained we would be inside and have some shelter from the elements! As you can see from the photos though, we were very lucky on the weather front and the sun shone the whole day.
Hospitality tickets was still the best way forward as a family as we didn’t have to worry about lunch before we left home. We knew we had a beautiful 2 course hot lunch waiting for us on the course before the racing started. It was a buffet lunch with a good selection of foods and some salad items.
Due to the salad items I assumed that the 2 courses were starter and main, so I was delighted when the chocolate brownies were brought out for pudding! In my opinion it’s more like a 3 course lunch because you could have salad, cheese and cold meats to start followed by a hot main. I chose Chicken, Potatoes and Veg for my main and the whole 3 courses were delicious. Lily and Mike enjoyed them too. There was also arable full of sweets that we could help ourselves too.
Having race day hospitality meant we were assigned a table in the restaurant and that was really handy for leaving things we didn’t want to carry around all day (although we were careful not to leave behind anything valuable just in case!).
The race day we went to was a family day so there was lots of free entertainment for the children including face painting, a bouncy horse race, a treasure hunt and chocolate lolly making!
We had great fun at Lingfield Park and we are sure to visit again soon.
Disclosure: We were provided with our race tickets and race day hospitality FREE in exchange for an honest review.
